Busy as a bee

I have been knitting like my life depends on it! I am surprised my needles haven’t caught fire as much as I have been putting them to work. On a good note it’s looking like I will actually finish all my Christmas order in time.
Here is a little peek at what I have been up to.
First I finished the baby leg warmers and mailed them off. Funny story about the leg warmers. I mailed them off and they arrived to the recipient on Saturday November 16, which was amazing since her baby was due on December 2nd. Well her baby had other plans and was born on Sunday November 17!!! I literally got those things done just in time!! She looked adorable in them and I was so tickled to see the pics of a new baby in something I made.

I then knit up another Minnie Mouse hat and gloves to match. These gloves gave me a hell of a time. It took five tries to get the fingers to not look all wonky, but in the end I was pleased and so was the recipient. I just hope they fit her daughter and she’s really happy. Since she is Vicious teacher I would like to keep her happy lol 🙂

After that was finished I whipped up another plain black hat with a flower. Well, kind of. The black hat was already made. I had knit it as the first mouse hat for the teacher but once I gave it a bath and let it dry, it went from fitting a four year old to fitting me!! How does this happen? Usually wool gets smaller if washed not bigger. I have no idea, so I am just saying that skein was cursed. It worked out either way and went to a lady for her neice.

Last but not least was my birthday gift for my brother. He asked for a R2D2 hat like a year ago so I finally made it!! Who is the best sister ever? This girl!

That’s it for now! I am currently working on a scarf. It’s coming along nicely and I hope to have it finished by tomorrow. Happy knitting everyone 🙂

October review

With October gone and November here I can’t help but think what the new month will bring. October was such a productive month for me, I can only hope that November will bring me the same knitting gratification.
November is always my favorite month, for 2 reason. The first:My birthday!! This year I am turning 30, so I am very excited that it is November! My day o’ birth is the 11th which here in the US equals Veterans Day. So when I was little I always thought my birthday was such a big deal and I was so awesome that they let everyone stay out of school that day. What a disappointment to learn I was just a regular person haha. But I still make a big deal about my birthday and this year will be even bigger of a deal 🙂
The second reason is Thanksgiving! I love to eat! I mean I really LOVE to eat, so thanksgiving is my kind of holiday. The best part is my mother in laws stuffing! Man that junk is good!

This November Is bringing a lot more goodness this year. One: I have so many orders and can’t wait to see them come to life! Several I get to design and pick colors, and I love being able to let my creativity run free and have others appreciate it. I also finally get to go to the neurologist and see what the heck is going in with me! Oh I can’t wait. I already know what I will be knitting during that appointment haha.

The best part about this November is that it is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who!!! Man oh man, I can NOT wait for that! November 23, what a great day it will be!!!

Here is a recap of Octobers FOs:

Happy November everyone! Hope the month brings great things to you all!

I lost my sockginity

I lost my Sockginity this week.  I have messed around with socks in the past but they always ended up ruining the good thing we had going before we could go all the way. My first attempt at socks ended in massive heartache and it took me a while to get over. I tried my hand at a pair of Tardis socks (Those who don’t know what a TARDIS is, I am sorry, so so sorry) (Those of you who didn’t get the “sorry” reference please stop reading and go watch Doctor Who) Anyway, before we could finish what we started things went horribly wrong and I mourned the loss of that relationship. Thing 2 Pulled the needles out and unraveled the second sock, and there was no way to really pick up the stitches plus I had already frogged these socks about 3 times per sock. So sad.

We had a good thing going for a while.

Well after a long break from from socks I finally decided to dip my toes back in the act of making socks. My next socklationship went great from the start. The first thing was they were toddler socks so much easier for me to deal with then Adult socks. (Size does matter)
Second there was just simple stripes so no crazy color work or dropping stitches and all the other craziness required in the Tardis socks. I finished both socks in no time. And it really doesn’t count unless everyone finishes, know what I mean 🙂

Now they are on their way to Alaska to be with the one they were made for.

Yarn Crawl: Day 2

I continued the Yarn crawl today. I visited 2 more of the 13 shops, bringing my total up to 5 shops in 2 days. Only 8 more to go!!

I started my day off at Tangles knitting on Main. The shop was a pain in the rear to find first off!! Even my GPS had problems pin pointing exactly where it was. I saw it by chance. I was at a stop sign and saw the words Yarn Shop on the side of a brick building. Oy!! Once I found it, I parked, went in and was blown away by all the funky displays and random knits all around. They seem to be very into the unique and anything out of the norm which I really love. It was great to just walk around and see what can be knit.  I also got some nice goodies. A stitch marker, measuring tape, Apiece of the scarf pattern and a bag of knitting scraps. At first I was all “WTH are you giving me a baggy of your ends for, lady?” (thought it,didn’t say it) She explained they are giving them out for people to throw out in their yarn or put out somewhere for birds to use the scraps for their nests. Then I was all “What a neat idea! My kids will love doing that!!” (said that, didn’t just think it)

This is how I found it!

That whole thing was knit!! How cool!!

My second stop for the day was my normal LYS Cottage Yarn. This is where I shop normally and where 90% of my stash has been purchased. It was great to go in to a place that I was familiar with and that felt “home” like when I walked in. It was great to be greeted by people who I recognize and who recognize me. They also were excited to see Thing 2 awake for once. I typically wear her on my back and she naps while I shop. Today she was ready to crawl 🙂 They did a scavenger hunt. That was a fun. It had a list of questions and you had to go around and find the answers. Most I knew off the top of my head but a couple I had to go find the answers. One question asked “Name 3 brands of yarn sold at the Cottage.(Hint:If you don’t know the answer off the top of your head, you are most likely the friend that got dragged along)”  I was cracking up at that.

I didn’t take many pics at the cottage since I was doing the hunt.

I also made a pit stop to buy Vicious her birthday gifts(some of them). I can’t believe she will be 6 in 2 days!!

Here are some pictures of my “swag” and the pink train button I mentioned in yesterdays post.

How cute is that train?

Yarn Crawl: Day 1

I had the most amazing day! The annual Yarn crawl kicked off this weekend and I spent the day going to various yarn shops and checking out the what-have-yous.  In case you don’t know what a yarn crawl is, it is where you go to all the local yarn stores in your area and they give you a “passport” to stamp. Each store you go to will stamp it and if you visit 11 out of 13 stores you can be entered to win one of several drawings. I visited 3 today. Here is a link that tells you more.

I started off by visiting The Yarn Shop by Rainy day creations. They gave me my passport and the first piece of a Mystery scarf pattern. I was in awe at all the pretty yarns they offer. They are really into spinning. It was neat to see all these huge spinning wheels all over and tons of roving hanging on the walls.

I want to make this!! It was hanging in the yarn shop and it is a free pattern on Ravelry. I need to go find it.

Beautiful yarn!!

After I left The Yarn Shop I headed to my next stop. Charlotte Yarn! This may be my new favorite LYS. It is a bit of a trek for me but they are my kid of store. They catered more towards kid knits and had tons of baby booties and mittens on display. It was really neat to see the different personalities of each Yarn store. I had no idea what a small bubble I had been living in only going to one yarn store ever(it is on the crawl but I haven’t went to it yet). They also gave out stitch markers as a free gift for stopping in and they handed over the second piece to the Mystery scarf pattern. Will I ever make this scarf probably not but I like having the pattern either way 🙂

Baby sweaters and an Angry bird hat!!

Pretty,pretty yarn!!

I also found a pink train button for Thing 2! She loves trains but all you can find are blue or red so I was stoked to find a pink one. I will post a pic in the upcoming days since it is in the other room and I don’t plan on moving just to photograph a button.

My last stop for the day was The Fibre studio. They were not really my style of knitting but they had beautiful hand dyed yarn all over. They tend to knit scarves and shawls, I am more of a hat and mitten kind of knitwit. I did end up staying there the longest of any of my stops. I loved looking at all the gorgeous shawls and found a super cute hat pattern/sample that I plan to make for Thing 2.  It is called the anemone hat and is a Ravelry pattern. They had one done up in a multi color yarn and it was so fraking cute!! I spent the rest of the time talking with the lady who works there about Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Buffy. I may shop there just to get my geek fix in. I didn’t take any pictures of the yarn since I was caught up in chit chatting with everyone there.

My ultimate goal is to hit all 13 stores by weeks end. I am shooting for 2 stores a day, possible more if I can fit it in some how. I will post my Day 2 adventures tomorrow evening. Now I am exhausted from all the fun I had fondling fiber.

Here it is

My knitting area. I stole the idea for this post from Mistine over at Crazy Purls.

Now just to let you know I had all my knitting supplies in our spare bedroom but once Thing 2 was born I had to do the grown up thing and let her have a room. That would of been fun to explain to people. “We have to have the crib in the kitchen since my yarn has the bedroom”. Wouldn’t of went over well so the knitting stuff now lives in my room in a much smaller area. Here it is:

Yep the top of my dresser is now home to my knitting stuff.

Most lives on this side.

My FO’s live in here. Yes, it is a punch bowl! And let me tell you all the cool kids put their FO’s in punch bowls. Proven fact, look it up. Ok it’s not a fact and you can’t look it up but it should be 🙂

Then there are my bins of things. Lets see what’s in them…

In the yellow bin is my labels. Care labels and personalized labels, labels that can be written on and my rainbow decals. The rainbow decals are special. I sew these into everything I make for Thing 2. They say that the baby after miscarriage or still birth is called your Rainbow Baby. Well after years of infertility and 9 miscarriage I have Thing 2 and she gets rainbows sewn into everything I make for her.

The pink box has thread.

The bottom bin has my buttons. I LOVE buttons, can you tell?

Little bins of “It’s a boy” tags and butterfly buttons. Have I mentions I love buttons?

Then I have all my knitting books and patterns on the end with my jars of DPN’s and straight needles as “book ends”.

Circulars live on the wall next to my dresser above my yarn bin.

My yarn bin. My stash is much smaller then it used to be due to downsizing the area. The cracks in bin are from Thing 2 thinking it is a stair and standing on it to steal my needles.

The other side of my dresser has the hat stand I use take pics with and some random baby pictures of Vicious and Thing 2.

That’s about it. Here are some random pics of my yarn.

Is my geek showing?

I love Doctor Who, so when I found patterns for Doctor who dishcloths I was a happy happy geeky girl!!

Holynarf on Ravelry has to be the best geek girl ever to come up with these patterns. So simple, such a quick knit. I was almost giddy knitting these washcloths and plan to make the rest of her patterns to give to my fellow geekilicious gal pals.

Click here to check out her stuff.

Those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, you must watch this show!! Start with the 2005 episodes and work your way up. Then go watch the originals because they are also amazing!! I think the 4th Doctor is one of my faves out of the classic Doctors.

Anywho..:) … Here are some pics. I knit the Dalek and the Angels have the blue box cloths.

And some random geekiness to get you through the day.
